Presentation and Poster Instructions for Authors
This message is to guide you, as a Micro-45 author, in preparation for
your presentations at Micro-45. Please read carefully as there are
instructions below describing how to prepare for the lightning and
poster sessions.
The almost-final Micro program can be found here.
In addition to having a regular formal presentation slot at the
conference this year, you will have the opportunity to present your
work in two other sessions: the lightning session and the poster
session. I describe below how each session will work.
- Instructions for your regular presentation:
Your regular session presentation is allotted a total of 30
minutes, including Questions and Answers from the audience. I would
recommend planning for a 25-minute formal conference talk, followed
by 5 minutes dedicated for Questions and Answers.
- Instructions for the lightning session (Monday, December 3,
10:30am-noon):
The lightning session is the first session after Keynote I on
Monday and it is a single large session, so I expect almost all
conference attendees to be present in this session.
- The purpose of this session is to:
- enable you to present the "key idea" of your work in less than
100 seconds to almost all attendees.
- enable the conference attendees to get a quick grasp of the
key contributions of your work (and perhaps decide whether or
not to attend your talk and visit your poster)
- enable the "best paper and presentation award" committee to
get a quick first glimpse of your work.
- Lightning session logistics:
- This session will run on a single laptop. Slides from all
presenters will be uploaded to that laptop on Sunday December
2.
- The order of each 100-second talk is the order of
appearance in the advance
program.
- Each talk will be presented one after another with no
interruption (no questions allowed). We will need all
presenters to line up in the order of their presentation by the
podium before the session. At any given time, we will have the
upcoming 10 presenters in the queue. Please heed your
presentation order.
- Best paper and presentation award committee will be listening
to your 100-second pitch to get an initial glimpse of all the
papers.
- Instructions for preparing for your 100-second talk and for the
session:
- Please email me ([email protected]) and Vivek
Seshadri ([email protected])
the name and email address of the lightning session
presenter as soon as possible. We need this information by
November 24 the latest.
- Please email me ([email protected]) and Vivek
Seshadri ([email protected])
your slides as soon as possible. We absolutely need these
by 5pm Pacific Time on December 2, 2012. If you send them
earlier, the better.
- Slides can be in PPT or PDF format. My suggestion would be to
use PDF format to avoid any compatibility issues.
- The time limit is very strict. If you go over 100 seconds in
your presentation, you will be cut off by the session chair
(without any mercy!). So, please abide by the time limit. I
would recommend planning for an 80-second presentation.
- I would recommend using only a few slides to demonstrate the
key problem your paper solves, the key idea, and the key
results. The 100-second lightning presentation is intended to
be a short pitch. Please leave the details of your paper for
your regular 25-minute presentation and the poster session.
- Presentation
Order: This document contains the
lightning session presentation order.
- Instructions for the poster session (Tuesday, December 4, 3:00-5:30pm):
- The purpose of this session is to:
- enable deeper interaction between you and the interested
conference attendees on your paper and research.
- enable the "best paper award" judges to get a deeper
understanding of your paper.
- have a technical networking event where presented papers are
at the forefront.
- Poster session logistics:
- We will provide easels, 36" (914mm) wide and 48"
(1219mm) tall poster boards and pushpins.
- You will be responsible for printing and delivering your
posters.
- Best paper award committee will use this session to learn more
deeply about your paper. The committee members will be walking
around and interacting with the presenters.
- Instructions for preparing your poster:
- Please ensure your poster fits within the poster board provided.
- Please bring your poster at 3pm on Tuesday to the Poster
Session room (to be announced).
- More instructions to follow.
