Travel Grant Application Information

Through generous support from ACM SIGMICRO, IEEE TCuARCH, and the NSF, we will provide travel support for students to defray a portion of their overall travel expenses. The size and number of awards will vary depending on funding availability, the number of student applicants, and their respective priorities. Expenses will be reimbursed after the conference, and grant recipients will be asked to submit original receipts to verify their expenditures.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

All highschool, undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students may apply. The final selection process will be based on several factors. Priority will be given to students:
  • Students with greater involvement in the conference (e.g., presenter, co-author).
  • Students from under-represented groups (including women and students from minority-serving institutions).
  • Students from institutions that do not have a strong history of publishing at major computer architecture conferences.
  • Students participating in the Meet a Senior Architect/Student program, the PhD Forum, and the SRC competition.
  • Student travel grants sponsored by IEEE/ACM have higher priority for those who hold SIGMICRO/TCuArch membership.
We strongly encourage applications from students that belong to under-represented groups.

  • Notification Date: Friday, 27 September, at 23:59 AOE

Application Requirements:

  1. Submit the Travel Grant Application Form
  2. Have your academic adviser send an e-mail to the Student Travel Award Chairs ([email protected]) with the subject line "[MICRO 2024] Student Travel Status Confirmation", stating that:
    • You are a full-time undergraduate/M.S./Ph.D. student in the areas covered by MICRO.
    • (Optional) a statement on the potential broader impact of making you an award, e.g., if you belong to an underrepresented group, or if you are unable to attend without the award.

Application Procedure

Applicants must fill out the Travel Grant Application Form before the deadline, Wednesday, 18 September, at 23:59 AOE. Student applicants also need to ask their direct thesis advisor to send an e-mail to the Student Travel Award Chairs ([email protected]) with the subject line "[MICRO 2024] Student Travel Status Confirmation", stating that you are a full-time student pursuing an MS/Ph.D. or an undergraduate researcher in the areas covered by MICRO. The advisor is also welcome to comment on the potential broader impact of making an award to you, e.g., if you belong to an underrepresented group, or if the candidate is unable to attend without a substantial travel grant.

Reimbursable Expenses

Students may apply for funds covering conference registration, airfare, ground transportation, and lodging only, between the dates November 1 and November 7, 2024. Please note that meals are not eligible for reimbursement. Since the total grant is a fixed amount, the amount that can be awarded to each student will depend on the number of awardees, and will cover only a portion of your expenses. Please note that funding is not guaranteed and requires attendance at MICRO.

Reimbursement Procedure

To be reimbursed, students will be expected to present original receipts and fill out a travel expense claim form (provided at a later time). It is imperative that you review the receipts to ensure that the proof of payment (e.g. method of payment with last 4 digits of credit card#) is provided on the receipts. If proof of payment is not provided, then you will need to submit proof of payment (e.g. credit card statement with transaction). Please be sure that you block out all personal information and your full account# (except the last 4 digits).
